Gateway Lab School Breakfast & Lunch

For Breakfast every morning the students will eat in their classrooms. Breakfast will be a main entree food (ie: cereal, mini muffins, mini pancakes, etc.) a fruit (ie: an apple, an orange, applesauce, a banana, etc.), milk (Fat Free, 1%, 1% strawberry, or 1% chocolate), and juice (apple or orange). Our Breakfast is based on the National School Breakfast program's nutritional guidelines. Our Breakfast & lunch menus will be available on our website, and will be sent home monthly. This way our Gladiator Families can review, order, and return your student's meal selections.

If you do not want your student(s) to purchase breakfast, lunch, À La Carte items, milk, etc. a signed email or letter needs to be sent to Christina Arnold, School Nutrition Program Manager, requesting that GLS does not provide these items to your student(s).  GLS will not turn away any student that wishes to purchase a breakfast or lunch, unless there is a signed note on file from a parent or guardian.

Special Dietary Needs

Please notify Mrs. Christina Arnold if your student has a special dietary need. If your student has lactose intolerance, lactose-free milk will be provided. For students with food allergies, a doctor’s note detailing the allergy must be provided to the school on or before the first day of school.

Severe food allergies will be handled by a collaborative effort between the school nurse and the meal program coordinator. Parents will have an opportunity to meet with these professionals to discuss the feeding of their student. Please contact the school nurse to discuss any special accommodations.

Options for Ordering Your Student(s) Breakfast and/or Lunch

Student debit account deposits can be made through ACH payments or by credit card on our MySchoolAccount page. If you prefer, you may also make your payment directly to the School's Nutrition Department by check or cash.

Check/cash payments should be placed in a sealed envelope with your student's name, the amount enclosed, and the student’s homeroom number on it. All checks should be made out to Gateway Charter School (GLS) with “School Nutrition Program” or “SNP" and your student’s name in the memo section.

Please return your completed Breakfast and Lunch order menu to the Main office with your payment, or place you order online at MySchoolAccount

One check or cash payment can be used for more than one child’s account. Please indicate the names and information of all the children on the envelope, and what you would like to going to which account.

The school is not responsible for money lost, stolen, or used to purchase items other than those offered by our School Nutrition Program.

Returned Check Policy

Any check returned for insufficient funds, closed accounts, etc. must be settled immediately with the school.  As well as any resulting "bounced check”, "insufficiant funds”, or “closed account” fees that are incurred.  The meals or nutrition program items that were ordered with the check in question may be cancelled if settlement is not completed by the first day of the ordering month.

A letter will be sent to the parent(s)/guardian(s) informing them that the school received notice from the bank regarding a returned check and the amount of money due.  Payment is required by cash or money order within three business days after the notice is sent.

If more than two (2) checks are returned from one household in one (1) school year, the school will not accept checks as a form of payment for any school activity or program from the parent(s)/guardian(s) for a period of up to one (1) calendar year from the date that the obligation and any resulting "bounced check”, "insufficient funds”, or “closed account” fees are paid. The meal program coordinator will place a notification on the student’s account instructing the office to not accept checks as payment for meals. If a check is given as payment on a blocked account, the check will be returned home with the student with a reminder letter that payment must be received in the form of cash, money order, or online payment through MySchoolAccount.

Nutrition Program Account Refund Policy

Parent(s)/guardian(s) must submit all requests for refunds to Mrs. Christina Arnold. If a student is going to be absent or leaving school early, the parent(s)/guardian(s) must notify Mrs. Christina Arnold 24 hours in advance so that we may cancel the lunch.

Meal Benefit Forms

Each school year GLS families will be offered the opportunity to apply for federal assistance for free or reduced priced meals. Students from families with incomes at or below 130% of the poverty level are eligible for free meals. Children from families with incomes between 130% and 185% of the poverty level are eligible for reduced priced meals.

Applications for free and reduced meals will be sent home with your student(s) at the beginning of the school year.  They will also be available in the Main Office. A new meal benefit form must be completed each school year. Please complete one meal benefit form per household using blue or black ink pen. If your student(s) received free or reduced meal benefits last school year, you are still required to submit another meal benefit form for the current school year.
