Doreen Rathmell

I have been in education for over 30 years, spending much of my time as a classroom teacher in grades k-3. I was hired as a third grade teacher at Gateway Lab School at the opening of the school. During my first year at GLS, I was trained and certified as a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner by completing the Wilson Reading System Level 1 Certification. After teaching third grade at GLS for a number of years, I noticed the need for a full time Wilson Reading teacher at our school. Our administration embraced the idea and I have focused on helping our Gateway students succeed in reading for the past several years. The Wilson Reading System is an amazing program that helps bridge the gap for students who are several years behind in reading. The substantial progress our Wilson readers have made is remarkable. Many students have grown as much as two grade levels, in one year. I have been so impressed and inspired with the program that I am currently working on my level 2 certification, in which I will be certified as a Wilson Dyslexia Therapist. I am so honored and excited to be a part of such an amazing school that makes such an uplifting difference in the lives of our students.

On a personal note I am also a published coauthor of a children’s book. My book, “Octavia and Her Purple Ink Cloud” is available in Barnes and Noble as well as Amazon. I have been a part of author signings in local bookstores and schools, but my most exciting signings were at the Book Expo of America held in both New York City and Washington, DC. I am also the proud mother of three hard working children, all of which are in college or grad school. I can’t forget to mention my wonderful white German shepherd named Gabby. Gabby likes to play with tennis balls and have ball parties.
